-Tried that place - Arikaye, the fish was far from fresh... maybe was
-unlucky that night
When I was at ClariNet, we were about 5-6 blocks from Ariyake (I
think that's the correct spelling) and ate there quite a few times in the
couple of months when it opened. I think I've been there close to a dozen
times so far.
The fish has always been quite good for me, and I enjoy it quite a
bit. I think I prefer the bar to the tables, as I like the ability to pick
up whatever interesting thing floats by, as well as watching the guys make
it.
-There is another place on Stevens Creek, Minami Sushi - quality is much
-better, service is sometime slow. It's not very expensive, either.
Is this the place near the billiards hall? That was about 6 blocks
in the other direction, and we went there once a little over a month
ago. (If it's the one I'm thinking of, they serve the sushi on little raised
wooden trays...)
I wasn't very impressed, actually. The service was VERY slow, the
sushi was about 50% more expensive than at Ariyake, from what I saw, and
the waitress who did our bill took about 10 minutes to do so, as she
accidentally rung up a party of 8 at a nearby table on one of our party of
four's credit cards, charging us about twice what we were supposed to
pay. They cancelled it out, of course, but it took about 10 minutes extra,
and there really were only about 3 tables occupied at the time we were in
there, so I'm not sure how confusing it should have been.
Y'know, with all these recommendations, we might want to throw
together a FAQ or guide to the various Bay Area Sushi places... Keep the
recommendations coming! I'm archiving the list, so we can pull out the data
in the future if someone wants to tackle the project.
