Subject: Mobo Sushi - Santa Cruz

I checked out that sushi page that was posted last week. It's quite
impressive! However, it doesn't seem to list anything in the Santa
Cruz/Capitola area, and I can think of at least 5 restaurants there.

In Santa Cruz:
        Benten (on Pacific Ave)
MoBo (Just off of Front St., near Erik's Deli Cafe)

In Capitola:
Miyako (which I've posted about several times here)
        Naka (haven't been there yet)
Pink Godzilla) (haven't been there, yet, either)

All three in Capitola are on 41st Ave. Miyako is a few blocks after you get
off the Hwy 1 exit for 41st (to the right) and both of the others are all
the way down near the end of 41st. They're across the street from each
other, so when you find one, you've found 'em both. And 41st dead-ends
about 2 blocks later, so you'll have to turn around if you miss 'em.

We went to MoBo last night. (Apparently, "MoBo" is Japanese slang
for "Modern Boys", although I'm fuzzy on the whole story of it, I learned
it a few years ago, and didn't refresh my memory last night.) They have
tables and a sushi bar that will seat perhaps 12-15 people. We sat at the
bar.
There were four of us, and we sampled a variety of the
fare. Everyone came away pleased. One guy was vegetarian, so he sampled a
lot of the veggie rolls (they had perhaps 20 or so varieties.) My SO
doesn't really like fish, so she had the chicken teriyake (sp?) and quite
liked it.
I had the tako (octopus), California Roll, "Landshark" roll (a neat
combo roll with lots of goodies including nuts and mushrooms in it), and
some Sunrise Rolls, with the tobiko (flying fish) roe, and quail egg. Quite
yummy, and the portions were generously sized. I also had one of the Giant
Clam nigiri that my friend ordered.

Sitting at the bar was fun. The guys were making up rolls about 2'
away, and were happy to translate when we didn't know what something was on
the menu.

Highly Recommended.

In fact, I will be in Santa Cruz tomorrow, getting my car repaired
for most of the day, and (conveniently) have to return to Mobo to get a
book my friend forgot there last night. I may stop back for lunch...
On the other hand, there's also Benten to try, and I haven't been
there in 2 years...

So many restaurants, so little time...
