I went to what I think was called "Yakudo Nippon" yesterday, or what is
more widely known as "No-Name Sushi" in San Francisco. I'd been there a few
years ago, but not in recent times. It's near 15th/16th Sts., and I think
it's on Church.
As usual, the place was packed (it's small), but when we got there, there
*wasn't* a line out the door and down the block, which is apparently
unusual. We got our orders to go, and they were ready in about 10 minutes.
I can honestly say that I've never had such large portions of sushi for
such a low price. It was amazing. I ordered a 9 piece ngiri special, which
cost about $4.45, and then picked up a few assorted rolls. One was a
California special roll (Cal. roll with flying fish roe), another was a
shitaki maki, and the third was yummy, but I've forgotten the name of it.
The total bill for me was $16.10, and I ended up with two meals out of it.
We ate our fill at my friend's house, and I brought half of it home and
finished it for lunch today. I'm full again. :-)
What I didn't realize was that their maki rolls are all at least 12 pieces,
rather than the normal 6. And in several cases, it was more like 15 or so
pieces, as they tossed in the end pieces, etc. It was an EXTREMELY generous
portion. Most of the rolls were between $2-4, and the sushi was very tasty.
Anyone else have opinions on this place? Or recommendations for others in
that area?
Pat
