I was distressed to find out that Miyako (on 41st Ave.) in Santa Cruz was
sold about a month ago. I haven't been over there yet to see what the new
ownership is like, or how it's changed.
I did hear a rumor that SangHo might be opening up a shop in downtown
Santa Cruz, though, which would be very nice.
Anyone else over here in the Santa Cruz area? We should get together for
lunch sometime...
Other sushi adventures of late:
Went to Takara, on Soquel Ave in SC. It was a very decadent meal, and all
were well-filled at the end.
Also went to a place in Boulder, Colorado (don't remember the name, but I
can ask my friends, if anyone's interested. The sushi was tasty, but it
wasn't overwhelmingly impressive. The rolls LOOKED very nice, but were
difficult to eat with chopsticks. (For example, spider roll was about 2" in
diameter, and about 1/2" thick, so it broke apart easily, and was difficult
to eat except by hand.
I haven't yet been to Paradise Sushi, in Capitola, but I've heard from an
office-mate that their "Satan Roll" is absolutely mind-blowing. It's
apparently a maki/hand-roll with a big lump of wasabi in the middle, ringed
by habanero peppers. My friend and his friend managed to each eat their
entire roll, and got their names on a plaque in the restaurant. Apparently
they had an amazing endorphin-rush for an hour afterwards...
