Subject: Miyako - Capitola on 41st Ave.

Hi, all!
Much to my surprise, now that I've started working in Santa Cruz again, I
hadn't been going to sushi at ALL in the past 2 months, even though there
are 2 places within 5-minutes walk of my office!
I corrected this last night with a stop at The Herb Room to pick up a few
new sets of chopsticks (got some nice mahogany ones with what appears to be
a mother-of-pearl inlay, and some with cool Japanese paintings on them) and
then we went to Miyako on 41st Ave. in Capitola.
As I remembered from several years ago, Miyako at dinnertime is much
different than Miyako at lunchtime. At lunch they have a great
all-you-can-eat buffet, but the sushi rolls are all of the small,
"rice-on-the-outside" variety. No ngiri in sight, unless you special order
it. At dinner, they have a full dinner menu out, as well as the sushi bar
menu.

We ate at the bar, and Stacie (the non-sushi eater) had a very nice
teriyaki dinner box with gyoza and also some cucumber snomono (pickled
cucumber slices). I had the "sushi delux", which was a platter with a large
(6-piece) California Roll, and 8 pieces of ngiri, all different. The fish
was very fresh, very taste, and the pieces were huge!
I also had a plate of gyoza as an appetizer, and we shared hot sake.

All-in-all, a VERY pleasing meal, and I highly recommend it for anyone in
the Santa Cruz-Monterrey area.

Anyone else have anything to report? Is anyone else in the Santa Cruz
area? We could try to plan another get-together dinner someplace.

Pat
