Chris,
I've passed your note to my friend, John, who studied Fabric
Structures architecture with me while we were in college, then went on to
work for several years with Bill Moss Tent Works in Arizona. (Ever seen
Moss Tents? That's them.)
What sort of material are you using? I assume a silk or some
lightweight fabric? Not mylar or something?
I took several semesters of sewing/clothing design, in addition to
the Fabric Structures class, so I've got years of sewing under my belt, to,
and would be happy to share knowledge, including some good seam styles that
give good strength. (For example, the flat-felled seam on the inseam of a
pair of jeans is often stronger than the fabric itself, and will outlast
the fabric when it comes to wear. They're not hard to make, either.)
