Since it has been brought up, I will play devil's advocate.
A concrete sphere, even if made out of "Gunite" and reinforced by
aluminium instead of heavy rebarr, would probably collapse on
itself if made as large as we are discussing. If one built a concrete
framework though, and used a lightweight material to cover
the surface, you would have an easy to build, extremely strong
structure.
