Just found this one today. Looks interesting. I've heard of stuff like this
before, but hadn't seen anyone doing it. They want to use airships to provide
a high-speed data "tower" that is about 21km high, giving a huge service-area
footprint.
They also want to use fuel-cells in the airships, so they're environmentally
friendly. (I swear I'm not making this up. :-) )
Looks like they plan to deploy in 2004, and have some pretty big names behind
the venture, including Lockheed Martin Global Communications and DaimlerChrylser
Aerospace.
