You failed to mention the societal illness and illogic that allows the
"necessity" for foetal tissue (ugh!) 'research' and class 1 drugs. The
rampant malnutrition that arises from commercial interests (milk board,
beef council, AMA, and especially ADA - in regards to the deliberate
poisoning of the countries water supply) having direct political
influence on food supply is now wreaking health havoc. When farming
becomes a game for bankers and chemical corporations the quality of land
stewardship falls rapidly. Evidenced is the lack of long term interest in
the planet itself, borne of a lack of awareness as to her natural
rhythms. Monoculture (using pesticides and fertilizers to artificially
sustain growth of a single crop on a single plot of land) leads directly
to nutrient deficient vegetables. They look the same, possibly even tast
the same, but trace minerals and micronutrients are all but gone by now,
because they are not available in the soil. The lack of attention to food
supply is the primary cause of most disease, and itself is often a
response to lack of adequate attention to lifestyle. Free drugs and wacky
medical procedures will never ever be able to assuage the root cause of
most (if not all) disease - life habits. Hopefully, with adequate
preperation aquaculture can be nutritionally sound and profitable with
such things as algae production, and nutrient rich deep water used for
power production desalinated, and used to help feed hydroponic crops for
local consumption. Overall, it seems the answers lie in working out our
problems here on Terra Firma before the venture outwards will work beyond
novelty status.
