John passed this on to me, and it *is* good, so I thought I'd pass it along
here.

Some interesting numbers from the article:

Factoid #1:
UN Population Estimates for the year 2050: 8.9 billion (down 500 million
from 9.4 billion, due to slowing down of birth rates, and increase in
mortality rates.)

That's still an awful lot of people, and will increase
the demand for food, water, housing, power, education, etc... All the usual
stuff...

Factoid #2:
Sub-saharan Africa and India contain about 1.9 billion people, or 1/3 of
the entire world's population. (Also one of the more impoverished regions
of the planet.)

This is one reason I'd like to position at least a few (and
probably many) floating-cities offshore from these regions, in the Indian
Ocean. I think that placing high-technology/high-living-standard
"incubators" off the coast might allow for a way to create wealth and
opportunity in the regions, via new technologies, jobs, and energy/food
production.

What do the rest of you think about strategically placing
tech-centers near these regions? It might be difficult for an Indian or
African person to get the resources to move to someplace like Silicon
Valley, but what if we brought that sort of job market and creative talent
incubator to their local area?
